Union has a new roof! Historic preservation completed in 2024.

Our former roof was seriously damaged: It was first installed around 1972 and over the years was repaired and patched with incongruous material and color schemes. The 1972 roof replaced the original banded slate roof (in the photos below).

We finally received grant funding needed for a complete roof replacement that began in October 2023! Funded by a $500,000 grant from the Community Preservation Act (CPA) of the City of Boston and a $200,000 grant from the National Fund for Sacred Places, we are delighted that this re-roofing helps to preserve our 1872 High Victorian Gothic Revival sanctuary in the South End.
