Sunday Service Questions

General Questions About Union

What are services like at Union?

On Sundays, we have an 8:00am traditional worship service and a 10:45am blended worship service (Please note that we have one combined blended Sunday service at 9:30am on every 5th Sunday as well as every Sunday from July through Labor Day).

Both services have a similar structure and include elements of prayer, singing, bible readings, and a 20-30 minute message from a member of our pastoral team. During the services, you're welcome to clap your hands and respond aloud during the worship service.

8:00am Traditional Service

Our 8:00am traditional service convenes in our chapel and is a smaller gathering.

The musical selections in this service are mostly hymns and those in attendance can call out their favorite hymns to sing during moments in the service.

A meet-and-great "coffee hour" time follows the 8:00am service.

10:45am Blended Service

Our 10:45am service is a "blending" of both the traditional and the contemporary, the ancient and the modern. The service convenes in our sanctuary and is a larger gathering.

Our praise team leads us in song at the beginning of the service, and one of our choirs sings several selections as well during the service. The styles of music in this service span a wide range on any given Sunday, including Contemporary Gospel, Traditional Hymns, Jazz, Classical, and modern Praise and Worship. Once a month, the Dance Team participates in the service too.

During the service, there's a fun time for all the children to come up to the front a hear a short message geared for them ("Cool Kids Corner").

A meet-and-great "coffee hour" time follows the 10:45am service (in Cooper Hall on the lower level).

How long is the service?

Our 8:00am Sunday Worship service lasts about 75 minutes. Our 10:45am Sunday Worship service lasts about one hour and 45 minutes. When we have a combined 9:30am service (over the summer and every 5th Sunday), it lasts about one hour and 45 minutes.

What should I wear?

Some of our attendees wear jeans and a shirt and others wear ties, suits, or dresses (either out of personal preference or while participating on a Sunday team). You are welcome to come to Union as you are.

What should I do when the collection plate is passed?

At Union, we celebrate our opportunities to give of our time, talent and tithe. However, giving is never compulsory. As a guest, if you feel led to contribute to the offering, feel free to do so. If not, please do not feel any guilt.

Is it okay for my small children to attend with me?

Of course! Families of all ages and sizes attend Union.

When is Communion observed?

We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of every month. We do so to commemorate Christ's final meal with the disciples, and to celebrate his resurrection. In the United Methodist Church, communion is open to everyone, regardless of denominational affiliation, church membership or belief. All are welcome to experience the gift of grace offered to us through Jesus the Christ.
